Sourcing Timber
Our last trip to the sawmills in France
We source all our timber from certified mills in France. All the oak is PEFC certified, which guarantees that it is from well-managed stocks, replanted to ensure the long-term future of the precious forests. The oak forests of France have been managed for the past six centuries to ensure a continuous supply, formerly for the navy. There is a strict quota for the felling of trees, which takes place in winter when the sap is lowest and the trees are at there driest.
The video clips show the trees already planked and air-dried for four or five years. We check through each tree, board by board to make sure the timber is of suitable quality. The trees are then re stacked before shipping back to the UK by lorry to be stored in our yard ready for the appropriate project.
