Buying oak directly from the sawmills, from the people who have bid for the trees in the forest and processed them, gives us a real sense of continuity. We know the forests the trees have come from just as we will know the homes into which our finished pieces will be fitted.
Knowledge of our materials
We have been importing our oak from various sawmills in France for the past fifteen years. Over the time we have developed an in depth knowledge of our material. We buy air dried oak for any job that interfaces with the outside as it is at the ambient moisture content and will remain relatively stable. Kiln dried wood is fine for interior use but swells when in contact with damp outside air. By keeping a stock in our yard we are able to choose the appropriate tree for each job.
