The finishes we use are all made up of natural oils, waxes and minerals. Our aim is to introduce as few chemicals into our environment as possible. below are the finishes we currently use:
1. Osmo produce a range of oil/waxes and opaque coloured stains, all harmless to the environment in their production and use. They are also microporous which prevents the formation of a skin, this allows the timber to breath. By allowing it to breathe it helps prevent the wood from rotting as moisture won’t be trapped in the wood.
Ingredients: Based on natural vegetable oils and waxes (sunflower-oil, soybean-oil, thistle-oil, carnauba-wax, candelilla-wax).
Osmo Polyx Hardwax Oil tends to be used on areas that get a lot of wear such as floors and surfaces. It helps to make the wood extremely hard wearing and durable. This is the oil we use for most of our interior finishing, it comes in satin-matt or matt.
Osmo top oil is a special oil and wax combination, used as a clear treatment on wooden kitchen work top surfaces and general interior joinery. It’s made on a base of natural plant oils and waxes. The surface will be protected against common household substances such as wine, beer, coffee and water in accordance with DIN 68861 – 1A (German industrial norm).
Osmo UV Protection Oil satin matt clear finish for exterior finish with a variety of uses. It’s made on a base of natural plant oils and waxes .
Does not crack, flake, peel or blister. When used as a final finish after staining wood prolongs the renovation time significantly, it also blocks the greying process by UV-Protection factor 12 in comparison to untreated wood.
Water and dirt resistant, moisture regulating and reduces swelling and shrinkage of the wood.
For jobs where the client wishes to introduce colour, we use water-based micro-porous paints. There are many benefits of using this over traditional paints. Micro-porous paints don’t form a skin, allowing the wood to breath, thus preventing moisture from being trapped and causing it to rot. Another benefit is that it won’t flake or crack over time, keeping the timber protected much more effectively. As the finishes begins to age, all that’s required to get it looking new again is to clean the surface of any dirt before applying another coat of the micro-porous paint, no pesky scrapping and sanding is.
For Paints we use ‘The Little Greene Paint Company‘.
Little Greene is an independent, British paint manufacturer with records dating back to the year 1773, and the Little Greene Dye Works of Collyhurst Wood, on the outskirts of Manchester is one of England’s most ancient industrial sites for the making of paints and dye solutions.
Nearly 250 years later Little Greene still use the highest quality materials available. Committed to the socially and environmentally responsible production of high quality paints and wallpapers, they incorporate many of the natural resins and pigments used in the past for the preparation of their Paints today.
