Timber

We source our timber from certified mills in France and a trusted local timber suppliers. All the oak is PEFC or FSC certified which guarantees that it is from well-managed stocks, replanted to ensure the long-term future of our precious forests. The oak forests of France have been managed for the past six centuries to ensure a continuous supply, formerly for the navy. There is a strict quota for the felling of trees, which takes place in winter when the sap is lowest and the trees are at there driest.

Knowledge of our materials

We have been importing our oak from various sawmills in France for the past fifteen years. Over the time we have developed an in depth knowledge of our material. We buy air dried oak for any job that interfaces with the outside as it is at the ambient moisture content and will remain relatively stable. Kiln dried wood is fine for interior use but swells when in contact with damp outside air. By keeping a stock in our yard we are able to choose the appropriate tree for each job.
